Geeks and hip-hop

October 22nd, 2009 by Ian

RZA shows off his geeky side in this interview. Jedi mind tricks (not the band), ColecoVision and the usual comic books that anyone who knows about the Wu will be familiar with. It’s nice to hear stuff like:

I’d rather raise nerds than raise gangsters.

Icycle caters for uncrowded niche

October 8th, 2009 by Ian

I know. It’s about time that someone released a game featuring a lonely nude man on a bike too small for him. In the ice. Brilliant artwork ahoy.

MF Doom & Ghostface team up for Chinatown Wars

March 15th, 2009 by Ian

The Nintendo DS has always seemed a little bit too ‘kiddy’ for me, but with the release of Chinatown Wars, things look like they’re about to change. This game looks better for the fact that it’s a DS-specific title, not some hand-me down re-jigging of a Playstation title. The stylus seems to be an integral part of the game, rather than some tagged-on annoyance.

What also helps is the presence of personal fav MF Doom on the soundtrack. Oh, and Ghostface Killah. Delicious. Time to get me a DS.

The game is out next week. Check out some trailers etc. at the official site.

Battle of Hoth in Lego

December 22nd, 2008 by Ian

A Battle of Hoth Lego diorama is the next logical step from this previous blog post I suppose. Unless of course you think the idea of a Rebel offensive makes it more likely that this defensive battle is a step backwards. Chronologically. I’ve said too much.

Amiga Workbench in Javascript

October 13th, 2008 by Ian

I think I’m progressing at my JavaScript education and then I see something like this in-browser emulation of an Amiga Workbench desktop.

Workbench in JavaScript: yes, you can click on everything

Genius. A great way to show off your chiptunes music and demo’s. Just don’t right-click!

Lego + Star Wars = nerdgasm

September 28th, 2008 by Ian

Here is a mini-lego-made Star Wars recreation of a massive battle. X-Wings, AT-ATs, Slave 1 and TiEs swooping over the landscape. This would have made my childhood.

Star Wars theme played on a floppy drive

June 9th, 2008 by Ian

The iPhone3g has just been announced, and it’s allegedly going to cost us $199. Interesting. I’m going to wait until the fight has died down and for now, stick with some old skool tech.

Star Wars + obsolete hardware. booyah.

omg zerg rush kekekekek ^_^

March 10th, 2008 by Ian

I used to love RTS games but ever since the Command and Conquer games turned into a rubbish pile of EA crap, I’ve not had many good ones to play with. It’s a good news Starcraft II is on the way. It looks good and effects heavy, but I’ve also got a feeling that all the units will be balanced perfectly, the AI tuned and the story interesting as well. Basically, it’ll be nothing like the new C&C games that seem to fail on all accounts.

The new Zerg got unveiled in a trailer shown recently in Korea (where else?) and they look especially foreboding. This could be the first RTS I’ll buy in a very long time.

Bloody Zombies

February 26th, 2008 by Ian

Bloody ZombiesMore of this sort of thing please. ‘Bloody Zombies’ is an ‘experimental’ game. One man, a lawnmower and a load of Zombies. Yeaaaah boiiiii. It’s the perfect way to loose 5 minutes. Indie games ftw etc. etc. The only thing is, as it’s such a small project for the developer, he’s not added sound. I suggest the Shaun of the Dead soundtrack, in particular the 80’s Matchbox B Line Disaster.

You can download this little game from the makers website, Kloonigames. Apparently the chap is doing a new game every week, so it’s probably worth keeping a look at his blog.

GTA IV Trailer; finally

March 31st, 2007 by Ian

GTA 4 logoAfter keeping the gaming/geek community on edge for so long, Rockstar Games finally released the trailer for GTA IV this week. I actually spent enough time with the last two GTA games that I finished them. They’re great fun. Plus when they get released, it’s great to read the Daily Mail columns complaining about how they are corrupting our youth. arf. Not entirely sure when (or even if) we’ll see this on the PC. I hope we do; I don’t fancy selling a kidney so I can afford to buy a PS3 (seems no one else does either). The trailer isn’t all that action-packed, it’s more tantalising; drawing fans in to make a load of predictions about what absolutely every little bit means. Interestingly (well, for me anyway) it uses Philip Glass as a soundtrack, complete with trade mark formulaic cadences. Guess it makes a change from the expected Kim Wilde/Grandmaster Flash (and anything in-between) of the previous games.

View the video here. Warning though; the huge hi-def copy almost crippled my (admitedly long in the tooth) computer; low-res copies are also available.
