Lovely, succulent RSS feeds

December 28th, 2005 by Ian

rss logoSince all the cool kids are doing it and I’m just a slave to fashion, I implemented an RSS feed into this page. A couple of people requested this feature (supprisingly) and i can’t disapoint now can I? Mozilla Firefox users, you know what to do! Just click the little orange button in your address bar, or status bar, or wherever they feel like hiding it this week.

I’m going to visit family for a few days so I won’t have internet access. I know, it’s a killer. Try not to break it while I’m gone. Oh, I hope you all had a good Christmas as well. I felt was hardly worth mentioning before… you knew it was on Sunday, right?

Pitchfork: Top Albums of 2005

December 21st, 2005 by Ian

Pitchforkmedia logoAh! Pitchforkmedia! Like the NME it’s a brilliant place for music news, yet we like to moan about their pretentious musical twit-snobbery as much as is humanly possible. The sort of thing we love to hate! We treat those we love the worst though don’t we? Admittedly, I do eagerly await their annual top 50 albums. I was expecting to be writing a big bitching session right now, but some of my top albums (like Deerhoof and M.I.A.) appear in the top ten. More importantly the two almost universally over-rated ‘indie’ albums of the year; ‘Silent Alarm’ by Block Party and the yawn-tastic ‘X&Y’ by Coldplay are missing from the top of that list. So I begrudgingly say “hurrah Pitchfork”. Ugh. I’m going to go and take a shower.

How to be a complete bastard

December 19th, 2005 by Ian

CIA PamphletAnother somewhat odd flickr find. According to the blurb here, The right-wing Reagan u.s. government was determined to undermine or overthrow the leftist government of Nicaragua. The CIA produced a small illustrated booklet to destabilise the Nicaraguan government and economic system. It instructed dissaffected individuals on acts of sabotage they could carry out to this end.

If it is for real, then it’s a bit sad to think that one country could treat another like that. Regardless; it makes pretty comical viewing.

Dinosaur Comic

December 15th, 2005 by Ian

T-RexI used to read webcomics a lot. Megatokyo, Sinfest, Exploitation Now, loads! Now I don’t seem to have the time, but I recently stumbled across this little jem and it makes me laugh. Which is a bonus. It’s rather unimaginatively titled ‘Dinosaur Comics’ and it’s not exactly the most thoughfully drawn strip. The image is always the same, but it’s twisted look at, well… whatever its looking at, is really rather special. Check out the time saving Compressed version of ‘Bill and Teds Excellent Adventure’ and the infinitely useful commentary on social interaction. Priceless, no? It’s been around for a while but is still going strong.

Intelligent Design isn’t just bad science, it’s bad religion

December 7th, 2005 by Ian

Flying Spagetti MonsterIf somebody told you that Intelligent Design Theory could have anti-Christian implications, you might get exasperated, and understandably so, given the political leanings of the theory’s proponents. But, in fact, the harder you look at Intelligent Design, the less genuinely Christian it feels.

The ID argument which seems to be raging quite fiercely in the US at the moment is one that I often find very interesting. This article at therevealer.org is a good one. It takes a somewhat less frequently seen approach and reminds us again that not all christians are creationists! I’ll be reading those comments just as soon as I get this exam out of the way. grrrrr…

It’s a hard time for Pastafarians at Christmas who must be asking WWFSMD? Bless ‘em.
